Memorandum of Understanding between the Palestinian Maintenance Fund and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs

The Palestinian Maintenance Fund, represented by Attorney Fatima Al-Muqat, Director General of the Fund, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, represented by Dr. Amal Hamad, Minister of Women’s Affairs, on June 6, 2021. The MoU aims to establish a joint framework of cooperation on issues of mutual concern, fostering coordination, harmony, and complementarity between the two institutions to strengthen the principles of justice and the rule of law.

The MoU outlines cooperation in several areas, including: developing legislative frameworks related to their respective work; exchanging data and information on jointly followed-up cases; implementing media programs highlighting the complementary roles of both parties; conducting joint awareness workshops for targeted groups to be identified later; and engaging in joint planning and implementation of national events.

It is worth noting that this MoU represents a fundamental step in institutionalizing and mainstreaming gender issues and women’s empowerment across sectors. It serves as one of the key mechanisms to facilitate the implementation of the National Policy Agenda and the Cross-Sectoral Strategic Plan for Justice and Gender Equality (2020–2022), while reinforcing human rights principles and access to justice in line with international conventions acceded to by the State of Palestine, as well as the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
