Consultative Meeting to Strengthen Cooperation Between the Palestinian Maintenance Fund and Ecclesiastical Courts
Bethlehem, January 13 – In an important step aimed at enhancing cooperation between national and religious institutions, Reverend Ashraf Tannous, Head of the Lutheran Ecclesiastical Court of First Instance, welcomed today Ms. Suhair Farraj, Director General of the Women’s Media and Development Association (TAM), and Ms. Fatmeh Muaqqet, Director General of the Palestinian Maintenance Fund, along with the legal team: Ms. Hadeel Rabai, Director of the Legal Department, and Mr. Mohammad Rizeq, Director of Planning and Human Resources. Also attending the meeting were Ms. Scarlett Bashara, the first female judge at the Evangelical Lutheran Ecclesiastical Court in Jordan and the Holy Land, and Ms. Ranan Issa, Director of the Gender Justice Office at the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
During the meeting, Reverend Tannous warmly welcomed Ms. Muaqqet and her accompanying delegation, commending the vital role played by the Maintenance Fund in providing a dignified life for Palestinian citizens. He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two parties.
This visit is part of efforts to strengthen the partnership and cooperation between the two institutions to develop mechanisms for enforcing alimony rulings in ecclesiastical courts and to provide legal and social support for women and children entitled to alimony, in line with both religious and national legislation
