The National Bank and the Palestinian Maintenance Fund Collaborate to Provide Food Parcels to Female-Headed Households in Gaza
Ramallah, May 7, 2024 – As part of its ongoing humanitarian contributions to Gaza, the National Bank signed a cooperation agreement today with the Palestinian Maintenance Fund to provide food parcels to female-headed households in the Gaza Strip. The agreement was signed by Mr. Salam Khaleel, CEO of the National Bank, and Ms. Fatmeh Muaqqet, Director General of the Palestinian Maintenance Fund, in the presence of senior officials from both institutions. The signing took place at the National Bank’s headquarters in Ramallah.
In his remarks during the signing, Mr. Khaleel emphasized the Bank’s continued efforts to support Gaza through humanitarian contributions, aimed at alleviating the impact of the war on the dire humanitarian situation. He confirmed that the Bank has allocated its entire corporate social responsibility budget for the year toward supporting Gaza, as part of its commitment to standing with the Palestinian people in these challenging times.
Ms. Muaqqet expressed her gratitude for the National Bank’s support, highlighting the crucial role of the banking sector in upholding the dignity and resilience of female-headed families in Gaza. She called for broader national and humanitarian solidarity to fulfill the collective responsibility of supporting the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of mobilizing national institutions to work together in providing essential services under the current circumstances. She also noted that the Fund has launched an emergency response plan this year in collaboration with national partners—with the National Bank being at the forefront of these efforts.
It is worth noting that since the beginning of this year, the National Bank has focused its efforts on providing relief across Palestinian areas most affected by the war and its economic repercussions. During Ramadan, the Bank distributed thousands of hot Iftar meals to displaced families in areas including Jabalia, Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, Rafah, and Deir al-Balah. Additionally, it distributed 60 tons of food supplies to underprivileged families in the West Bank. Furthermore, the Bank’s staff and board members personally contributed to delivering hot meals to displaced families in the Gaza Strip.
